Marad Special Court today sentenced seven accused in the murder case of Shimjith in the first Marad riot to life imprisonment. They are to pay a fine of Rs 25,000 each. Nine other accused, accused no. eight to 16, were sentenced to five years impisonment and a fine of Rs 18,000. Rs 200,000 from the fine amount would be given to the mother of Shimjith, who is a witness in the case.
Due to the lack of evidence court acquitted four accused. There were 20 accused in the case. Shimjith was murdered in 2002.
